The complete eye examination is more than reading a letter on the board
At the Heart of your Ocular Health
The complete eye exam assesses much more than your ability to read letters on a board. It checks your visual capacity, your general vision and your ocular health, which can lead to the detection of numerous diseases. The complete eye examination includes:
- Visual examination (presbyopia, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) with prescription handed over
- Visual examination (presbyopia, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) with prescription handed over
- Examination of the coordinated vision of both eyes (double vision, eyestrain, headaches)
- Ocular health examination (prevention, eye pain, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes…) and prescriptions for medications.
- For everyone (children, adults, elders, people with disabilities including visual impairments)
Only if required, additional testing could be recommended.
- Retinal photography is $50 to $75
- Macular scan (OCT) is $70 to $100 according to assessment
- Visual field test – $40
- Pupil dilatation for the peripheral retina – $80
A regular exam lasts about 30 minutes with the following different fees:
- 0-17 years old: covered by the Québec Health Insurance Plan
- 18-54 years old: $125 (includes an eye backgound picture)
- 55-64 years old: $145 (includes an eye backgound picture and macular scan)
- 65 years old and more: covered by the Québec Health Insurance Plan
The Québec Health Insurance Plan* covers regular eye exams for people under 18 or aged 65 and above, and to Social Assistance recipients. *However, as of October 1, 2024, the health card is no longer accepted in Dr. Bédard’s practice. Practice fees apply, see fee details here.
